Social Media.. friend or enemy?
Social media is a huge platform and anyone that owns a smart phone will tell you that it's a big part of their life.
If you are reading this article it means you are also someone that uses social media platforms and if you just sit back for a second and think about it, it definitely has you hooked and wanting more.
Most people wont admit it but most of us are in a way are addicted to social media and sometimes it can bring out the best in you or the worst. It is definitely in our nature that we envy and get jealous of others and wish we had what they had like money, cars, the friends and the body. It always looks so accomplished, fun and easy when we see their posts. We often wonder how they did it or we think that they just had it from the start and everything just came easy to them. Yes, there are the lucky ones out there that did have it easy from the start and yes there are people that are more prone to getting that amazing body a lot faster than others. Social media doesn't always show us the other side of the people posting on it and that is one of the big concerns I have with it. We start to believe what we see over and over and start creating a reality that everyone else is experiencing the easy life and we are struggling and getting nowhere in life. From my experience its definitely more women that are struggling and feeling the pressure of having to look good and making everything look perfect and it definitely has a negative psychological affect on women.
If you really just take a breather and just think about it....we all are just human and the struggles we have in life are struggles most other people also have. But the thing is they don't let it get them down. When you see a guy or girl on social media that looks really good it feels like they started yesterday and woke up like that today...but the truth is most of them are doing it for years and years. To give you an example the average men's Mr. Olympia open class contenders (bodybuilding) are by that time in their life training for over 20 years. If you think about it in most successful ventures and journeys there was a lot of hard work, blood, sweat and tears. Next time when you see someone that you admire or feel a bit jealous of... remember that they also started where you are starting and that they didn't just wake up one morning and everything was successful. Yes, you mostly only see the good side of their life now, but it came with a lot of hard work and sacrifice.
Rather you feeling bad about yourself compared to them... start to see and learn what they are doing and how they started and you will quickly see that its not that different from your situation. You can choose to see all things in a negative way or you can choose to see things in a positive and learning way... its what you make of it.
Remember social media can be your friend and mentor or it can be your enemy and demon.
